What We Feed Our Labs

Updated: Mar 15, 2021

We have tried so many brands of kibble. Truly. We've read labels, battled with digestion ailments with some brands, we've experimented with leading brands and raw food. Guess what we discovered! Raw food is awesome, guys! This is our personal feelings and works for our dogs. There are also studies that attest to this. "In a 2005 study conducted at Purdue University on Scottish Terriers, the results showed that adding fresh vegetables to dry commercial kibble actually prevented and/or slowed down the development of transitional cell carcinoma (aka bladder cancer)!"

We started introducing raw ground beef trimming into our dogs diet along with their preferred kibble. We bought a grass-fed beef this year from a local farmer and butchered it ourselves. We saved the trimmings, ground them up and froze them into packages. Feeding them healthy raw meat made their coats absolutely gleam, their overall health is amazing, and the pups that followed this dietary transition are plump and healthy. Honestly, we are never going back. They also enjoy a variation of fresh vegetables every day; beets, carrots, celery, cucumbers, bell peppers. Just be careful the food items are approved for dogs. Some foods such as garlic are toxic.

Ok now on to kibble. Our dogs eat TLC kibble. It is the choice dry dog food of many a breeder for a reason. You can check independent reviews which also highly recommend TLC. We stand by this brand so much that we offer a warranty for your puppy as long as you feed it TLC. Cheap dog food brands fill their kibble with questionable ingredients and lots of corn. Might seem like a reasonable price now but you won't want an exorbitant dentist bill when your puppies teeth are deteriorating from the sugars in corn nor do you want to see your dog struggle with pain from abcessed teeth.

Even many vet clinic and pet store kibbles have smaller quantities of meat and more by-products and can be expired. A bonus, TLC delivers no matter where you live. For us, living in a small rural town, this is a big incentive, knowing our monthly shipment ensures we don't run out and we don't have to drive to a bigger centre to go get it!
